The PCA spends so much of its time trying to help former county cricketers get employment after their playing career finishes. When a player turns pro he cannot be sure how far in the game he will go, or for how long he will play. I played over a 24 year period and during the time in the winters, when I was not touring (more NOT than was), I worked for many different companies. Although players today get far better remuneration for playing, their contracts, 10 to 12 months means they are unable to do any other work. Therefore they acquire no experience of working in other organisations. They have no experience of working to budgets, marketing, office structure procedures or the simple day to day problems of running an office.

The PCA has become a very important part of the pro's 'after-life' for many ex-players and, with the current financial environment they may need all the help they can get.

Good luck guys!!
